It’s finally Baselworld 2016! This means it’s time to review some of the latest new design watches introduced at the major horological fair held in Basel, Switzerland.
1. Omega Speedmaster CK2998 Limited Edition
This stunning sample of new release watches is a re-issue of the Omega CK2998, one of the most sought-after Speedmasters in the world first presented in 1959. The original vintage model with a distinctive black bezel is one of those unique Speedmaster Professional high-end luxury watches that were worn by Apollo crews. In keeping with tradition, the new Omega Speedmaster CK2998 Limited Edition luxury watch retains its classic stainless steel case equipped with a “lollipop” style chronograph seconds hand and three sub-dials on the silver dial surrounded by a blue ceramic bezel. It comes with a matching deep blue leather strap.
2. Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater
This year, Bvlgari once again sets a standard within the field of the ultimate highly complicated designer watches. Thus, the Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater model is now the thinnest watch with minute repeater ever made! That’s the new world record! The unique titanium luxury watch is powered by the hand-winding BVL Caliber 362, the thickness of which is just 3.12mm while the overall thickness of the cased watch is 6.85mm. Moreover, being extremely thin, the Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater still delivers perfect sound. As a result, we get an excellent example of technically sophisticated high-end luxury watches with classic Octo appearance.
3. Patek Philippe 5930G World Time Chronograph
This new piece of brand new watches represents a rare combination of two Patek Philippe’s signature complications: 24-hour and day/night indication for the 24 time zones and chronograph. Its design is based on the well-known vintage luxury watch by Patek, the 1415 HU. However, these two models don’t have much in common other than that they are both world time chronograph watches. Anyway, the new 5930G model is unique in its own way and definitely an interesting and worthy re-interpretation of brand’s traditional complications that comes in an elegant 18k white gold case with the blue opaline dial and matte navy blue alligator leather strap.
4. Tudor Black Bay 36
Along with this year’s hit Tudor Black Bay Bronze luxury watch in a 43mm case crafted from marine-grade bronze-aluminum alloy, the Swiss brand has also introduced another Black Bay from the Heritage collection. It is a vintage inspired 36mm stainless steel model with a smooth bezel and “snowflake” hands on the shiny black dial. This sample of new branded watches may seem to be not as eye-catching as other models, however, its clean and timeless simplicity makes it desired for the brand’s lovers. Besides, it is available with a stainless steel bracelet and a leather strap as well.
5. Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in Steel with Cerachrom Bezel
This is perhaps the most long-awaited luxury watch model to be presented at Baselworld. It’s a new version of iconic Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona high-end watches that, at last, comes in a stainless steel case topped by a black monobloc Cerachrom bezel. Moreover, it is available with both, black and white dials. Therefore, such a blend of sleek aesthetics, high technology, and affordable materials sets this timepiece apart from other models. However, a waiting list promises to be very long.
