To the delight of its fans, Rolex has introduced several new models of stainless steel watches. They include the reissue of the historic Cosmograph Daytona, the new Air-King model with significant changes, and the renewed Explorer with an entirely luminescent display. Besides, all of these brand new watches are now powered by extremely accurate Superlative Chronometer movements, the precision if which is more than twice that required of an official chronometer. So let’s look at the amazing Rolex stainless steel watches introduced in 2016!
Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona
This new version of famous chronograph watches is inspired by the historic Daytona released in 1965. The original model was distinguished by a new metal bezel with white numerals on the black plastic insert and the first in the watchmaking history screw-down chrono push-pieces. Thanks to its appearance and functionality, this luxury watch with chronograph soon became the icon of design and usability. Its modern version is created in full accordance with the new technological level. Thus, its black Cerachrom bezel in high-tech ceramic is made in a single piece and offers an extremely legible tachymeter scale thanks to a very thin layer of platinum in the graduation and numerals. Besides, this new luxury watch model is crafted from 904L steel that has much better anti-corrosion properties compared to L316 steel. The lacquered dial with white gold markers is available in black or white color. Finally, this new model of Rolex high-end watches comes in a 40mm case equipped with an in-house automatic mechanical chronograph movement covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification.
Oyster Perpetual Air-King
The main feature of the new Air-King luxury watch model is definitely its eye-catching black dial that is distinguished by a combination of large 3, 6, and 9 hour markers and an unusual minute scale intended for navigational time readings. This design solution may seem strange for such a conservative brand, however, let’s not forget that Rolex history is closely linked with the world of aviation, and its timepieces were used as on-board chronometers by many pioneers in this field. Therefore, the design of the new Air-King pays tribute to these people in particular and the Rolex Oyster’s role in the history of aviation on the whole. In addition, this new Swiss watch model with a 40mm waterproof case also made of 904L steel houses a self-winding Superlative Chronometer movement protected by a magnetic shield.
Oyster Perpetual Explorer
Rolex Explorer high-end luxury watches have always been a symbol of reliability, accuracy, and convenience. To enhance these features, the brand has released new stainless steel watches with 39mm cases complemented with beautiful Chromalight dials that offer exceptional legibility in any conditions. Thus, the new Explorer’s numerals, hour markers, and hands are now filled with an exclusive luminescent material that emits a long-lasting blue glow. Moreover, for more visual comfort, its hands have become longer and broader. Lastly, this luxury watch model, as well as the previous ones, carries the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex last year.
