Watch Glossary

  • Karat

The descriptions of the luxury watches usually contain the information about the karat. This word refers to the purity of the gold used in the timepiece. The highest purity is 24k, which means that it's the gold without any admixtures. Most of the luxury watch brands use 14k gold with the addition of copper or silver, because pure gold is too soft. Karate number of gold is very important, as it affects its price, strength, usefulness, as well as its color. Although 24k gold is considered to be the best and the most expensive, it's usually unsuitable for the production of fine watches. Modern brands tend to create solid timepieces with the long-term reliability, so 14k and 18k gold is the best choice for this. There is a great variety of different high end gold watches for men and women. The top-choice designer watches feature yellow gold, white gold and rose gold of different karat numbers. Audemars Piguet Jules Audemars Tourbillon, for example, is one of the best representatives of gold watches. This item of fine watches boasts 18k rose gold, which creates a distinctive identity and grabs everyone's attention. The world-famous Swiss brand Patek Philippe manufactures a tremendously diverse selection of gold watches. Its Celestial Grand Complication timepiece is made of 18k white gold, which would satisfy even the most discerning watch connoisseurs.
