Watch Glossary

  • Bridge Movement

The watchmakers invented movements of different shapes to make their suitable for various styles of cases of fine watches. A shape of movement depends on a position and shape of a back plate. Bridge movement is a type of movement, where a set of bars or plates, which are called bridges, replace the back plate. It is rather simple and comfortable, because the bridges and wheels of the given mechanism can be easily removed without serious problems, which can lead to the total destruction of the luxury watch sample. This mechanism started to be employed for pocket items of Swiss watches around 1900. There are a lot of modern timepieces with bridge movement. The majority of patterns with this type of movement have a skeletonized dial to show an interesting and unusual structure of the given mechanism. This manner of design is typical singularity of Corum luxury watches with bridge movement. The Corum 113.550.55.F Golden Bridge 18k Rose Gold Manual-Wind Watch is a specimen of high-end watches with bridge movement. It has a brilliantly unusual transparent case of rose gold. There is also a strap of vivid rose-gold links. A dial of the given elite sample is skeletonized and the connoisseurs of the best luxury watches can admire the perfection of the inner mechanism of this fantastically modern laconic timepiece.

  • Butterfly

The butterfly clasp is the locking mechanism that is used for fastening a luxury watch strap. The distinctive feature of the mechanism is its expanding opportunity. Made of metal, the butterfly clasp is designed to be firm and durable and, at the same time, to ensure the owner the proper fitting of the fine watch bracelet on the wrist. Being unlocked, the butterfly clasp looks like a complicated gadget but when the mechanism is locked it becomes completely invisible. The “butterfly” name the mechanism has got from its way of opening: it opens by pulling the joined ends of the designer watch clasp that is similar to a way to a butterfly spreading its wings. These two wings are hidden and tightly cover the wrist when being locked. The butterfly clasp, being a metal mechanism, is set up into the leather strap and operates as ordinary luxury watch clasp. The opening and fastening of the butterfly clasp are easy with its exposing or imposing pin. While opening the butterfly clasp, the buckle should be pulled to expose the pin from the holes of a leather strap, so the wings of the butterfly clasp are open. During fastening the butterfly clasp, the owner finds a proper hole on the watch strap to push the pin into the hole, then presses the wings of the butterfly clasp. The clasp of the watches firmly snaps and tightly covers the wrist. Many luxury watches are equipped with this locking mechanism that brings comfort wearing of the high end watches.
